Wat Arun at blue hour
Cross the river on the ฿5 ferry from Tha Tien, walk the spire, then shoot it from the bank you came from — the best photo in Bangkok is of Wat Arun, not from it. The chut thai costume-rental wave (฿100–400) is the defining visual trend of 2026.
Chatuchak Weekend Market
Fifteen thousand stalls, 27 sections, 200,000 visitors a weekend. Arrive 09:00–10:00, carry cash (street PromptPay QR won't take foreign apps), haggle 20–30% with a smile. BTS Mo Chit or MRT Kamphaeng Phet exit 2.
Muay thai night at Rajadamnern

Yaowarat street-food crawl

Chao Phraya dinner cruise

Ayutthaya day trip

Talad Noi & Song Wat wander
The consensus 'new Bangkok': working auto garages beside street-art murals, the rusted-VW photo op, heritage cafés in old godowns. Go before the gentrification story finishes — it's already 'notably touristy' and still the best free afternoon in town.

How many days do you need in Bangkok?
Three full days minimum — temples, Chinatown, one big market, one night out. Four to five is ideal, and adding a day for Ayutthaya is the most common upgrade. The '2 days is enough' faction exists on Reddit but gets outvoted; this city rewards a slower gear than its reputation suggests.
Is Bangkok worth visiting in 2026?

Is Bangkok expensive now?
The 'Thailand is no longer cheap' discourse is real but overstated. Mid-range costs run 30–50% above 2019 memories, but the street floor barely moved: pad kra pao is still ฿50–70 (~$1.50–2), the BTS is ฿17–62 a ride, and a genuine five-star bed costs $150–200 — arguably the world's best luxury value. At ~฿33.6 to the dollar in mid-2026, tourist exchange rates are the best in over a year.
When is the best time to visit Bangkok?
November–February: cool, dry, everything open. Two caveats: December–January is peak pricing, and January–February is PM2.5 smog season — the worst air arrives in the best weather, so pack an N95 and check the IQAir app. April is 40°C and Songkran (avoid unless Songkran is the point); September–October is wet, empty and cheap.
Is Bangkok safe?
Yes — the US advisory sits at Level 1–2, with the exceptions covering seven border provinces hundreds of kilometers away; Bangkok is entirely unaffected. Violent crime against tourists is rare. The real risks are opt-in scams — gem shops, 'palace is closed' tuk-tuk circuits, meterless taxis — and nearly all of them require you to say yes to a stranger who approached you first.
