Do one rooftop sunset in Bangkok; the skyline earns it. The question is where. Sky Bar at Lebua — the Hangover ledge, home of the Hangovertini — doesn't publish its drink prices online, and published reports run from about ฿600 to well over ฿1,000 a cocktail before service charge and VAT: the verdict is one sunset drink, then leave. Octave (Marriott Sukhumvit, Thonglor) is the best value of the big names; Tichuca runs about ฿400–500 a cocktail before service, walk-in only. Mid-tier reality across the sector is roughly ฿350–550 a drink, 'no flip-flops' is the norm, and the free alternatives below are genuinely good. One 2026 note: Vertigo at the Banyan Tree is closed for renovation until 2 December.

Every rooftop enforces some dress code. Sky Bar's published rules are a fair benchmark: smart casual, tailored shorts allowed, but no flip-flops, beach slippers, athletic wear, swimwear or sleeveless shirts for men — and Pink Bar next door wants collared shirts and long trousers.
The free sunset alternatives
Bangkok's best-kept sunset secret is that the free versions are legitimately good. Benjakitti Park's elevated skywalk puts the Asok towers behind wetlands as the sky goes gold — enter from MRT Queen Sirikit and walk the boardwalks. Dusit Arun, the roof park over Dusit Central Park on Rama IV (opened September 2025), is billed by its developer as public green space with Lumpini views — we've found no admission fee published. And the oldest move in the city still works: a cheap Chang at a riverside bar, watching the same sun the rooftop crowd is photographing 60 floors up. One rooftop night plus free sunsets the other nights is the correct ratio.

What is the dress code at Bangkok rooftop bars?
Sky Bar's published code is the benchmark: smart casual, tailored shorts are fine, but no flip-flops, beach slippers, athletic wear, swimwear or sleeveless shirts for men; its Pink Bar wants collared shirts and long trousers. Dress to that and you'll clear Octave and Tichuca too. Vertigo at the Banyan Tree — closed for renovation until 2 December 2026 — has the strictest code in town, so check its rules before you dress. Getting bounced at the skydeck elevator is a bad start to an expensive evening.
What's the cheapest way to see the Hangover bar?
Go to Sky Bar itself early, before the sunset crush, order exactly one drink — check the menu price first, since Sky Bar doesn't publish it online and service charge and VAT go on top — take the photo by the golden dome, and leave. Total damage: one cocktail. The view genuinely is spectacular — it's the second drink that's the mistake.
Sky Bar, Octave or Tichuca — which rooftop is best?
Octave for value among the big names — the 360° deck at roughly ฿350–550 a drink is the honest sweet spot. Tichuca for spectacle, with cocktails around ฿400–500 before service and a walk-in-only door. Sky Bar only if the Hangover photo specifically matters to you, on the one-drink plan. And if what you want is the highest view rather than a bar, that's the Mahanakhon ticket instead.
Are rooftop bars worth it in rainy season?
With flexibility, yes. May–October rain comes as short, violent downpours — often late afternoon, usually drained away within the hour — rather than all-day washouts, and September–October is the wettest stretch. Keep the rooftop as a movable plan, check the sky at 17:00, and have an indoor backup (a Chinatown speakeasy does nicely). Don't prepay a non-refundable sunset slot in October.
Do I need a reservation?
Increasingly, yes — the 2025–26 new wave runs on bookings, and Sanctuary at the InterContinental Sukhumvit is small enough to book out. The legacy icons take walk-ins but queue at sunset, and Tichuca is walk-in only. Reserve anywhere you actually care about, especially Friday–Saturday and December–January.
